Getting Started

How do I enroll my child in school?

Step 1: Use the "Find My School" button to determine which school your child will attend according to your address of residence.

Step 2: After you have determined which school your child will attend, click the "2025-2026 Enrollment Application" button to begin the enrollment process.

Step 3: If you have an existing Qmlativ account with FPS, log in. If you do not have an account, use the form on the page to create an account.

Step 4: Follow the prompts on Qmlativ to complete enrollment.

Don't forget to gather your documents before enrolling!

Verification of student age/birthdate (examples: birth certificate, physicians certificate, full list below)
Verification of residence (examples: utility bill, lease agreement, full list below)
Verification of Immunizations (examples: certificate of immunization status form)

You'll need to upload a photo or scanned copy of the documents when registering your student in Qmlativ OR you can choose to bring a paper copy to the school for review.

What documentation do I need?

Documents to Verify Name and Age
- Birth certificate
- Religious, hospital, or physicians certificate showing date of birth
- Entry in a family bible
- Adoption record
- Affidavit from a parent
- Previously verified school records
Verification of Immunizations
- Allow the school nurse to verify required vaccines by using WAIIS, an online system provided by the Washington State Department of Health
- Completed Certificate of Immunization Status form
- Completed Certificate of Exemption Form
Verification of Residence
- Escrow papers, mortgage statement, or property tax form
- Homeowner or renter’s insurance statement
- Lease agreement or rental contract
- Letter from rental agency on company letterhead, signed by the landlord, stating that the parent/guardian resides at the listed address
- Utility Bill (electric, gas, water, sewage, or garbage)
- Signed Franklin Pierce Schools Alternate Verification of Residence Form (English) or (Spanish), and one of the above items to verify name and address of owner/person responsible for residence.

Kindergarten

Wow! Can you believe that it is already time to start thinking about kindergarten? Sending your child to school for the first time can be an overwhelming experience. Don't worry, we'll walk you through it.

A couple of things you should know:

Students who turn 5 on or before August 31st are eligible for entry into kindergarten.
Kindergarten enrollment will open March 13, 2026!
The first day of kindergarten is September, 8, 2026.

Early Learning (Preschool)

The Hewins Early Learning Center (HELC) offers Head Start, Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP), Developmental Preschool, and Title 1 preschool services. Children of all ability levels and needs will interact and learn together. At the same time, students with special needs will receive individual and small group instruction designed to increase their learning, and to transfer new skills into integrated classroom settings.

All teachers and staff receive state-of-the-art professional development to grow their skills, and we strive to create the best learning opportunities and greatest student success to prepare ALL children to be successful in kindergarten and beyond.

Transfers and Homeschool

Choice Transfer Request Portal (CTRP) is used by many school districts in Washington State to process nonresident enrollment requests.

A Choice Transfer request is made when a student wants to attend a school outside of the school district where the student lives. Learn more about Choice Transfer requests from the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.

If you live in Franklin Pierce Schools and want to attend school in another district, you use this form. If you live outside of our district boundaries and want to attend a school in FPS, you also use this form!

Within District Student Transfer form is used by residents of the Franklin Pierce School District who wish to enroll their student in a Franklin Pierce school other than their school assigned by residence location. Parents complete this form online and submit it for review. Additional review steps are completed by district staff and parents/guardians are notified by email when a transfer decision is reached. Parents/guardians of a student applying to a school that they have not previously attended will need to provide grades, attendance, and discipline reports to the requested school.

Within district transfer are for students who wish to attend a Franklin Pierce School that is not their assigned neighborhood school.

Daycare Verification of Residency Statement form is used for elementary students who live in the Franklin Pierce School District and want to attend the Franklin Pierce elementary school in the area in which their daycare is located. Please print this form, complete it, and submit it to the school where you are requesting enrollment for review.

Daycare verification forms are used in conjunction with a transfer form. This is to establish your child's daycare within the district and allow for bus routing.

Declaration of Intent to Provide Home-Based Instruction form is used when you wish to provide home-based instruction for your student(s), and you live within Franklin Pierce Schools' boundaries. You are required to file a declaration of intent annually with the district office by September 15 or within two weeks of a new grading period. Please complete this form and submit to the district office in person, via email enrollment@fpschools.org, or mail to 315 129th St S, Tacoma, WA 98444.

Intent to homeschool forms are required for students who are receiving instruction at home or through a homeschooling co-op. This is not applicable for OSPI approved K12 schools online/in-person.

			Online Enrollment Our enrollment starts online. If you don’t have access to a computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone or the internet, you may visit your child's new school to enroll directly with the office staff.
			In-Person Enrollment In addition to visiting your child's new school to enroll there, you may also visit the district office located at 315 129th St S Tacoma, WA 98444 and we'll be happy to help!
			Interpreters Available If you need assistance over the phone, all schools and the district office can have an interpreter on the phone-line in minutes. If you require in-person assistance please call your school's main office to schedule an appointment.
