January 2022 Return to School Update

Update: 12/31/2021

Dear FPS Families and Staff

We hope that you all were able to rest and stay healthy over the past two weeks. The COVID-19 landscape continues to change as we learn more about the Omicron variant. As we prepare to return to school following winter break, please consider the following information:

  • Any student or staff who is currently experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 should stay home. Please reach out to our COVID hotline at 253-298-3099 if you have questions, or contact your health care provider.  For information about testing sites, please visit tpchd.org/gettested.
  • While the US Center for Disease Control (CDC) has changed quarantine and isolation guidelines for the general public, guidelines for schools have not yet been updated. FPSD will continue to follow current guidelines from Tacoma Pierce County Health Department until new guidance is received. This means that we will continue to require a 10-day isolation period for all persons who test positive, and a 10-day quarantine following an exposure, with an option to shorten to 7 days with a negative PCR test on day 5-7.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate changes brought on because of COVID-19. We continue to work with local and state health care authorities to learn more about the current status of COVID-19 and to plan accordingly.

We will provide updates on school guidelines via email and at www.fpschools.org as they occur.

Sincerely,

Franklin Pierce Schools
