Assisting individuals with low income, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Basic Food in Washington), provides monthly benefits to purchase food, helping them make ends meet.

Supplemental Nutrition Program (SNAP) for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC):
WIC is the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for:

  • Low-income pregnant women
  • Breastfeeding women
  • Non-breastfeeding postpartum women
  • Infants
  • Children up to age five

The program provides federal grants to states for:

  • Supplemental foods
  • Health care referrals
  • Nutrition education
