The Franklin Pierce Youth Coalition from Franklin Pierce Schools, in conjunction with Franklin Pierce Youth First, had an opportunity today to meet with members of the United States Congress to discuss concerns about the Franklin Pierce community. The students are attending a drug prevention conference in Washington, D.C. this week.
Students from Franklin Pierce Schools articulated concerns and efforts
related to the drug issues in the Franklin Pierce community. They advocated for support for
more funding for prevention programs, family-friendly infrastructure,
and more deputies and resources for Pierce County Sheriff's Department.
They recommended tougher responses to "low profile" criminal
activities, increase in community policing, and stricter rules and
regulations (with prevention in mind) for marijuana dispensaries.
