Announcing the NEW
Franklin Pierce Early Learning Center!

This coming year, 2014-15, all Early Learning programs will be located together at the old Spanaway Elementary School, 215 166th St. S. Spanaway, 98387. The phone number there is 253-298-4675.

While at this location (which is temporary), we will provide transportation to and from school for all enrolled preschool students.

We provide high quality early learning opportunities for children with and without disabilities that will enable every student to be ready to learn and to achieve at a high level. Our goal is to provide early childhood education that enhances children's skills in all areas of development, including: social/emotional, cognitive, gross and fine motor, adaptive and communication in order to help children be successful in Kindergarten and beyond.

Head Start and ECEAP Preschools

The Franklin Pierce School District Head Start and ECEAP programs provide a range of services for low income children in the Franklin Pierce School District. Classes are taught by an early childhood teacher assisted by a paraeducator.  Students with special needs receive their special services on site. Families receive support and resources through our Family Support Specialists, with other services such as the health and nutrition, dental, and mental health services available when needed. We are temporarily located at the old Spanaway Elementary School, 215 166th St. S. Spanaway, 98387.

Community Preschool

The Community Preschool Program provides an opportunity for students with and without disabilities to interact in a nurturing, child-centered classroom. Children’s unique learning needs are supported by an Early Childhood Educator, paraeducator, consulting Special Education Teacher and other Special Education staff. The class meets 4 days per week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for 2 ½ hours per day. There are morning and afternoon sessions. For neighborhood children, this class is tuition-based. Child Find

Child Find provides screening for children ages 3 to 5 in the areas of fine and gross motor, speech and language, social-emotional, behavior, and hearing.  Children who fail the screening are scheduled for further developmental testing.  Those who qualify for special education services may receive recommended services in one of our developmental preschool programs, the Community Preschool, Head Start or ECEAP, or they may speech/language therapy at their local elementary school, if needed.Call 253-298-3051 for an appointment.

Developmental Preschool

Developmental preschool classrooms provide specially designed instruction for students with developmental delays in a small class with extra adult support. Each class has an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher and a paraeducator.  Related services, such as speech therapy, occupational and physical therapies are provided as needed.  Classes meet 4 days per week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for 2 ½ hours per day. There are morning and afternoon sessions. Transportation is provided. Students must have a current Child Find evaluation and Individual Education Plan (IEP) in order to enroll.

High Needs Preschool

This preschool classroom specializes in teaching strategies and staffing ratios appropriate for students on the autism spectrum.  Staff are specially trained to meet the unique needs of children who benefit from highly structured classroom routines, visual supports and direct skill teaching methods.  Students have the opportunity to learn social and interactions skills by participating with peers in the Community Preschool. Students must be recommended for this program through the Child Find assessment process. Classes meet 4 days per week, 5 hours per day. Transportation is provided. Students must have a current Child Find evaluation and Individual Education Plan (IEP) in order to enroll.
