INTRODUCTION
The Franklin Piece Schools Highly Capable Student Program serves students identified as highly capable in grades 4 and 5.
The elementary program (Project Excel) is a full-time, self-contained, magnet program for students in the 4th and 5th grade. Project Excel is currently housed at Brookdale Elementary School.
Program work includes skills taught at the student’s grade level, with an enhanced curriculum, taught at a faster pace.
Multiple criteria are used for student selection:
Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT)
Measures of Academic Progress (MAP)
Parent Recommendation/Teacher Recommendation
Specific deadline dates for the CogAT registration and program application are provided on the district website and school newsletters in February of each school year.
Students residing within the Franklin Pierce Schools boundary will be given priority over students attending on an out-of-district release.
